Abandonment Of Use Of FBN
Upon ceasing to transact business in this state under a fictitious business name that was filed in the previous five years,
a person who has filed a fictitious business name statement shall file a statement of abandonment of use of fictitious business name.
The statement shall be executed in the same manner as a fictitious business name statement and shall be filed with the county clerk
of the county in which the person has filed his or her fictitious business name statement. The statement shall be published in the same
manner as a fictitious business name statement and an affidavit showing its publication shall be filed with the county clerk after the
completion of publication. (CA Business & Professions Code Sec. 17922).

Check the status of your fictitious business name statement.
Note: The fictitious business name statement is only valid for 5 years from the date the statement was filed with our office.
If your statement is more than 5 years old, then there is no need to file a Statement of Abandonment.
Step 2
Complete the Statement of Abandonment Form. Be sure to complete the information on the form
as stated on the statement which you are abandoning. If you do not have the information on the previous statement, you may verify by:

Bring or mail the completed Abandonment statement along with the corresponding fee.

You must publish with one newspaper from the Adjudicated Listing within 30 days from the date of filing, once a week for four consecutive weeks.
